ISO 14001 construction readiness checklist
The environmental-system questions an assessor will ask a contractor first.
- Is there an aspects and impacts register that reflects YOUR activities, ranked for significance?
- Is there a register of environmental compliance obligations with access to the current text?
- Are consents, permits and exemptions in place before the activities that need them?
- Is the waste duty-of-care chain complete: classification, carrier checks, transfer notes?
- Are fuel storage and refuelling controlled with spill response equipment and trained people?
- Are silt, dust and noise controls defined for work near drains, watercourses and neighbours?
- Has a spill or environmental emergency response ever been drilled — with a record?
- Are environmental objectives set with owners and measured progress?
- Has compliance with legal obligations been formally evaluated within the cycle?
- Are environmental incidents and near-misses reported and investigated?
- Has the environmental system been internally audited and management-reviewed?
- Could you evidence all of the above for your last completed project?
