ISO 45001 construction readiness checklist
Where OH&S systems in construction usually fail assessment — and where they fail workers.
- Is there an OH&S policy with visible leadership commitment beyond the signature?
- Are hazards identified task-by-task with controls following the hierarchy, not defaulting to PPE?
- Do RAMS match the task actually being performed on site today?
- Is there genuine worker consultation with records — not just one-way briefings?
- Are legal OH&S requirements identified and kept current, with someone owning changes?
- Are high-risk activities under permit control with defined issue and hand-back?
- Are temporary works controlled: register, coordinator, design checks, hold-point permits?
- Are subcontractors managed through approval, RAMS review, monitoring and review?
- Is health surveillance in place where noise, dust or vibration exposures require it?
- Are incidents and near-misses reported, investigated to root cause, and actions closed?
- Do emergency arrangements exist per site, and have they been exercised?
- Has the whole system been audited internally and reviewed by management this cycle?
